Tony Alves has worked in STM publishing since 1990 and has focused on digital publishing for almost thirty years, designing online learning products and workflow management software. Tony is currently SVP of Product Management at HighWire Press, overseeing a suite of platform products that address the entire scholarly publishing infrastructure. Tony is very involved in promoting industry standardization focused on system-to-system communications protocols and other industry shared services. Tony serves as co-chair of the MECA NISO Standing Committee. He is also currently leading a working group for the International Association of STM Publishers (STM) investigating the prevalence of simultaneous and duplicate submissions. Tony has also participated in the STM, Research Data Year initiative, STM Image Manipulation Detection project, OASPA’s OA Switchboard, Metadata 2020, and DocMaps, an initiative to make peer review part of the scholarly record.
