Addressing the Accessibility Imperative: You Have Options!
Session Description
The issue of accessibility has moved beyond "good to have" to "must have" for many in the scholarly publishing world. This became urgent for publishers due to the European Accessibility Act; now many libraries are also under pressure due to the update to the ADA Title II, which takes effect this spring. But different parties in the scholarly ecosystem need to address the issue of accessibility in different ways. This session, moderated by Bill Kasdorf of Kasdorf & Associates, a leading accessibility consultant, will be a panel of three speakers: a publisher, librarian, and service provider. While they each need to address accessibility in different ways, they also employ a lot of the same strategies and systems in different aspects of their work. A goal of this session is to help attendees of any sort understand what options they have. Three categories will be covered: accessibility integrated into editorial and production workflows; bulk remediation of existing content; and on-demand remediation. Most organizations use a combination of all three. Attendees should take away a comprehensive understanding of available strategies as well as concrete solutions that they can apply to their own organization's accessibility journey.
