Clearing the Cobwebs from Metadata Workflows

Back to Schedule

Session Description

Laurel CD

If it’s not broken don’t fix it, right? When we talk about metadata propagating through systems scholarly communications relies on, fragility in workflows can stem from institutional knowledge lost through staff turnover or breaking schema changes, creating cracks through which metadata can drop out. Systems often involve some long-running script or tool that can cause havoc when accidentally interrupted or when lack of awareness omits key information from projects and roadmaps. At the same time, such unfortunate events also call attention to needed improvements. Documentation can be the 'break glass in case of emergency' that saves the day but it is often outdated, missing or hard to find. What approaches are useful in addressing the increasing complexity and importance of (meta)data workflow management? This moderated panel session will bring together schema, product and content platform experts to explore these topics and what role AI may play in making these issues a thing of the past.
